Now Pay Delinquent Real Property Taxes Online
Eaton County Treasurer, Bob Robinson, announced this month that Eaton County property owners have a new and convenient way to make delinquenttaxpayments.  The treasurer’s office has contracted with Official Payments, a leading provider of electronic payment solutions to offer delinquent tax payment processing over the Internet through credit card and debit card transaction.  Visa, Discover, and MasterCard debit and credit cards will be accepted. This new service offers taxpayers a fast and efficient way to pay online and reduces manual processing time in the treasurer’s office.

“Through a unique partnership with Official Payments and BS&A Software, taxpayers can get online, pay, and process their delinquent tax payments instantly, in real time,” said Robinson.  “This is part of our ongoing work to increase efficiency in the treasurer’s office.  It can also help folks avoid last minute additional fees and interest on their past due real property taxes.”

Increase Tax Certification Fees Effective July 1


New legislation passed by the Michigan House and Senate, and signed by Governor Snyder on May 26, 2015,  Public Act 39, increases the fee for tax certifications on warranty deeds, land contracts, and condominium master deeds, and similar documents from $1 to $5.  The fee is collected on behalf of the County Treasurer by the Register of Deeds as part of the document recording process and goes into effect July 1, 2015.

Sex Offender Registry Information

Public Act 295 of 1994 was amended on July 1, 2011 requiring all registered sex offenders to have palm prints and fingerprints on file with the Michigan State Police for forwarding to the FBI. Per statute, the fingerprints must be taken no later than September 12, 2011 if they are not already on file.


During normal business hours, all registered sex offenders must report to the Records window to check if fingerprints and/or palm prints are on file with the Michigan State Police. You must bring with you a drivers license or personal ID containing a photo.

There is no charge to you for this process.

2009 Press Releases

January 31, 2009
Fatal Accident

On 01/31/2009 at approximately 1925 hrs deputies responded to a two vehicle accident on Clinton Trail north of Vermontville Hwy. A Dodge Neon struck a Chrysler Town and Country head on. There was a total of nine injured. They were transported to Sparrow Hospital. The condition of the injured is currently unknown. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the accident. The roadway was covered by blowing snow. The accident remains under investigation.

UPDATE: 02/02/09

The name of the deceased is Gregory VanGelder, 18, of Charlotte. He was a passenger in the Dodge Neon.

The driver of the Dodge Neon is a 19-year-old Charlotte man. There was also another passenger in the Dodge Neon, male age unknown.

The occupants of the van are:

Driver- 57-year-old Eaton Rapids man.
Passengers - 55-year-old female of Eaton Rapids, Other Passengers:33-year-old male, 29-year-old female, 6-year-old male, 8-year-old male and an 8-year-old female, all of Vermontville.

All involved were taken to Sparrow Hospital. Extent of Injuries unknown at this time.

Fatal Accident

A fatal crash occurred in Eaton County's Benton Twp. on 4/6/09 at approximately 0820 hours.

Deputies responded to report of a crash on M-100 south of Doane Hwy. They arrived to find two mini vans involved. The driver a 38-year-old Charlotte woman who was driving a 2004 Chevy Venture van, was transported to Sparrow Hospital by Benton Twp. EMS, and her injuries are unknown at this time. The second driver, identified as 35-year-old Matthew Dupree from Mulliken, was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary indications are that Matthew Dupree was traveling southbound on M-100 and lost control of his vehicle, crossing the center line, and colliding with the northbound vehicle. Both drivers were belted at the time of the crash, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor. Dupree was driving a 2007 Chevy Uplander van. It is believed that weather conditions may have played a significant role in this crash. The crash remains under investigation.

Personal Injury Accident

Eaton County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a crash at St.Joe and Snow at 1130 a.m. today. A mini van traveling westbound on St. Joe and Snow rear-ended a Cadillac. The van struck the car several times according to witnesses. The van then ran off the road onto the curb.

Witnesses and first-responders found the driver of the mini van, a Flint area resident, unconscious and having a medical problem. Delta Twp Fire transported the driver to Sparrow, her condition is unknown.

The driver of the other car, a local resident, was treated for minor injuries at the scene and refused transport to the hospital. The intersection was closed for approximately 2 hours while the accident was being investigated. Names have not been released pending notification of family.

Fatal Accident

Eaton County Sheriff's deputies responded to a fatal accident on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at approximately 6:27 p.m. on E. Clinton Trail (M-50) just east of Stewart Road. The deceased, WILLIAM LYNN OWENS, 46, of Charlotte was E/B M-50 and according to witnesses was attempting to pass another vehicle when he went into the on-coming travel lane and struck a W/B semi with trailer head-on. The deceased was driving a 1994 Chevy S-10 pickup. The driver of the semi, a 57-year-old male of Edmore, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. MDOT came out to the scene to assist with arrows and cones to shut down the road. The accident remains under investigation.

Personal Injury Accident

Eaton County Sheriff's deputies responded to a one-car accident at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2009. The driver, a 25-year-old female from Homer, was traveling northbound on I-69 on the on-ramp to I-96 when she lost control of the vehicle, rolled over in the median and landed on the eastbound I-96 highway. The driver was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol and weather do not appear to be a factor. The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was cited for basic speed violation.

Fatal Car/Pedestrian Accident

On Saturday morning, August 22 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Eaton County Sheriff's deputies responded to a fatal accident on Royston Rd. south of St. Joe Hwy. in Delta Twp. A preliminary investigation determined that a Ford Explorer driven by a 19 year old Grand Ledge man struck and killed a 20 year old man who was lying in the roadway. Both the victim and driver of the Ford Explorer had attended a party at a residence on Royston Rd. where several underage party goers had been drinking.

The deceased was identified as Ryan Woodward , age 20, of Delta Twp. The investigation into the incident is continuing.

August 24, 2009
Fatal Car/Bike Accident

On Monday, August 24 at 3:40 p.m., deputies from the Eaton County Sheriff's Office responded to a personal injury accident on Canal Rd. north of Bunker Hwy. in Eaton Rapids Township. A preliminary investigation determined a south bound Chevrolet pick- up truck driven by a 46 year old Eaton Rapids man struck a bicyclist also traveling south on Canal Rd. The bicyclist was transported to Eaton Rapids Community Hospital and later airlifted to Sparrow Hospital where he died 12 hours later.

The deceased was identified as William H. Petry, age 68, of Lansing. The incident remains under investigation. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

Three-Car Accident

Eaton County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a three-car accident at Harvest Lane and St. Joe in Delta Township at approximately 2:43 p.m. The at-fault driver, a 16-year-old female of Lansing, failed to yield at the stop sign on Harvest Lane and struck a pickup truck on St. Joe driven by a 43-year-old man of Dimondale. This caused the pickup to spin and land on the hood of a car traveling westbound on St. Joe. The at-fault driver and the 3rd car driver, an 18-year-old female of Lansing, sustained minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital. The driver of the truck and a female passenger were not injured. The passenger in the at-fault vehicle also was not injured.

The at-fault driver was cited for Failing to Yield.

Fatal Accident

On 10/28/09 at 9:40 a.m., deputies from the Eaton County Sheriff's Office responded to a fatal vehicle crash at the intersection of Lansing Rd. and Millett Hwy. in Delta Twp.

A preliminary investigation has determined that a semi truck driven by Mark Brenner, age 48, from Portland was turning from northbound Lansing Rd. to westbound Millett Hwy. A 2001 Yamaha motorcycle traveling southbound on Lansing Rd. driven by 19 year old Ethan Franks of Eaton Rapids struck the rear tire of the semi.

Franks was deceased at the scene. He was wearing a helmet and excessive speed may have been a factor. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.

Fatal Accident

On 11/21/09 at approximately 6:45 PM, deputies were dispatched to a two car collision on M-100 at St Joe Hwy in Oneida Twp. Deputies discovered that Travis Rademacher, 19, of Dewitt had been traveling westbound on St. Joe Hwy and had stopped at the stop sign. Radamacher then began to turn right when his Ford Taurus was struck by a northbound vehicle. That vehicle, a 1998 Oldsmobile, was driven by 18-year-old Matthew Merrill of Lansing. Merrill was alone in his vehicle. Rademacher had a 16-year-old passenger. That passenger was transported to a Lansing hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Rademacher died at a Lansing hospital a short time after the crash. Merrill sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a Lansing hospital.

Rademacher and his passenger were both belted at the time, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

December 1, 2009
Fatal Accident

Eaton County Sheriff's deputies responded to a fatal accident on private property in the 700 block of S. Shaytown Rd. at 7:45 p.m. on December 1, 2009. Lydia Fox, 57, of Vermontivlle, was run over by her motor home in her driveway. It appears she slipped as she exited the vehicle and was run over by the front tires.

The accident remains under investigation.

Fatal Car/Pedestrian Accident

Eaton County Sheriff's deputies responded to a car/pedestrian fatal crash this morning at 5:30 a.m. on W. Saginaw Hwy. east of Canal Rd. in Delta Twp. across from the Speedway gas station.

The pedestrian, who was struck and killed, was identified as Michael Bicknese, age 39, of Lansing.

The vehicle, a 2004 Saturn Vue, was driven by a 63 year Grand Ledge man.

Mr. Bicknese, who was wearing dark clothing, was walking in the curb lane of the roadway when he was struck and killed. Investigators are not sure why Bicknese was walking in the roadway since there was a plowed sidewalk available to him.

Alcohol consumption by Mr. Bicknese may have been a factor in the incident. Toxicology results won't be available for several weeks.

The incident remains under investigation.

B & E Suspect Arrested

On Sunday morning, December 27,at 2:45 a.m., Eaton County Sheriff's deputies responded to an alarm at Delta Center Elementary School on Canal Rd in Delta Twp..

Deputies discovered the school had been burglarized and were able to track the suspect in the snow. Deputies found 25 laptop computers and a slide projector near the school where the suspect abandoned them.

Deputies continued to follow footprints in the snow and eventually apprehended the suspect near the Mt. Hope Church.

Arrested was KAWIN GRADY, age 22, of Lansing. GRADY was arraigned today in 56th District Court on one count of Stolen Property/Receiving. Bond was set at $5,000 cash. GRADY's Preliminary Exam is scheduled for January 8, 2010 at 10:00. a.m.
