Questions and answers regarding
Eaton County CCW Application Procedures
Hours of fingerprinting: 9:00am – 11:30am and 1:30pm – 3:30pm.
Fee: $118.00 w/photos
(This includes CCW permit, fingerprinting and photos)
1. Attend and pass an approved NRA-certified CCW training course. Obtain NRA-approved CCW training certificate stating, "This course complies with sec. 5j of 1927 PA 372.” Make sure your CCW Instructor is registered with the Eaton County Clerk’s Office; otherwise your training certificate will not be acceptable. Please bring your training certificate with you when you apply.
3. Go to the Eaton County Sheriff’s Department or Eaton County Clerk’s Office to get your CCW application kit.
4. Obtain two 2”X2” passport-quality photos of yourself. (No hats or sunglasses, and DO NOT trim the photo to size your self.) The Clerk’s Office can take your photo at time of application for $10.00.
5. Fill out the application and be sure to provide the name, complete address, and phone number of two (2) people that have known you for awhile to serve as references. THE APPLICANT MUST NOT SIGN THE APPLICATION UNTIL PRESENT BEFORE THE CLERK’S OFFICE.
6. Go to the County Clerk's Office with $108.00 ($105.00 application fee & $3.00 lamination fee in cash or check), a valid drivers license or MI ID, your CCW application, passport-quality photos, and your original CCW training course certificate (the Clerk’s Office will make a copy).
7.You'll have to sign the application at the Clerk’s Office and swear the info you provided on the application is truthful.
8. After applying for your CCW license, go directly to the Sheriff’s Department to be fingerprinted. Take your receipt to show you paid the fees and submitted your application. DO NOT FILL OUT THE FINGER PRINT CARD. This is to be done while you are at the Eaton County Sheriff’s Department. Bring a valid drivers license or MI ID.
9. Upon the successful completion of your background checks, the County Clerk’s Office will notify you by mail that you are requested to appear in front of the Eaton County Gun Board.
10. The Gun Board meets the 2nd Wednesday of every month. Your appearance before the Gun Board is required. The Gun Board just wants to see who you are and make sure all of your paperwork is in order.
11. You will be able to pick up your CCW License from the Clerk’s Office the same day you go in front of the Gun Board.
