EATON COUNTY CPL APPLICATION PROCEDURES

 

Hours of application/fingerprinting:  8:00am – 11:30am and 1:o0pm – 4:30pm.

Fee: $118.00 w/photos

INFORMATION TO CARRY IN ANOTHER STATE - RECIPROCITY LAWS, CLICK THIS LINK

 

1. Attend and pass an approved NRA-certified CPL training course. Obtain NRA-approved CPL training certificate stating, "This course complies with sec. 5j of 1927 PA 372."

2. Make sure your CPL Instructor is registered with the Eaton County Clerk’s Office; or your training certificate will not be acceptable.

3. Go to the Sheriff’s Department or County Clerk’s Office to obtain your CPL application kit.   Download Application

4. Obtain two 2"X2" passport-quality photos of yourself. (No hats or sunglasses. DO NOT trim the photo to size yourself.) The Clerk’s Office can take your photo at time of application for $10.00.

5. Fill out the application, providing the name, complete address and phone number of two (2) people who have known you for awhile to serve as references. DO NOT SIGN THE APPLICATION UNTIL PRESENT BEFORE THE CLERK’S OFFICE.


6. Go to the County Clerk's Office with $108.00 ($105.00 application fee & $3.00 lamination fee in cash or check), a valid drivers license or MI ID, your CPL application, passport-quality photos and your original CPL training course certificate (the Clerk’s Office will make a copy).

7. You will have to sign the application at the Clerk’s Office and swear the information you provided on the application is truthful.

8. After applying for your CPL license, go directly to the Sheriff’s Department to be fingerprinted. Take your receipt to show you paid the fees and submitted your application. DO NOT FILL OUT THE FINGER PRINT CARD. This is to be done while you are at the Sheriff’s Department. Bring a valid drivers license or MI ID. Fingerprints can be taken between 8:30am – 11:30am and 1:30pm – 4:00pm.

9. Upon the successful completion of your background checks, which can take up to 10 weeks, the County Clerk’s Office will invite you to appear before the Gun Board.  Gun Board meeting dates below.

10. If your application is approved, the Clerk’s Office will notify you by mail to come in to pick up your permit. Please do not call the Clerk’s Office to verify if you have been approved unless it has been longer than 10 weeks since your application has been submitted and your fingerprints have been taken.
