Construction Code
The Eaton County Construction Code Department is dedicated to providing the best services possible. Our staff members have spent many years providing quality service to the local communities within Eaton County and as our mission statement says, “OUR GOAL IS TO PROVIDE A SAFER PLACE TO LIVE, PLAY AND WORK” making the quality of life in Eaton County better for everyone.
Although we do not cover all of Eaton County, the area we do cover is extensive. Our Department enforces the Building, Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing codes in:
Bellevue Village Benton Township Brookfield Township Carmel Township Chester Township Dimondale Village Eaton Township Eaton Rapids Township Hamlin Township Kalamo Township Mulliken Village City of Olivet City of Potterville Roxand Township Sunfield Township Sunfield Village Vermontville Township Vermontville Village Walton Township Windsor Township
We also enforce the Plumbing Code in the City of Eaton Rapids.
On a regular basis the State of Michigan renews its commitment to a safe “Built Environment” by adopting up to date Construction Codes. These codes are adopted by the Stated and enforced uniformly throughout Michigan by all inspection agencies, public and private. Currently, along with the State of Michigan, Eaton County enforces the following codes:
BUILDING (Commercial): 2006 Edition – Michigan Building Code (Effective date: 01-Aug-2008) (1 & 2 Family): 2006 Edition – Michigan Residential Code (Effective date: 01-Aug-2008) ELECTRICAL (Commercial): 2005 Edition – Michigan Electrical Code (Effective Date: 23-Nov-2007) MECHANICAL (Commercial): 2006 Edition – Michigan Mechanical Code (Effective Date: 03-Dec-2007) PLUMBING (Commercial): 2006 Edition – Michigan Plumbing Code (Effective Date: 24-Jan-2008)
If you are planning a project, “Check Sheets”, have been placed on our website that list the required information you will need to bring with you when you visit our office to apply for your permit.
A Building Permit Application has been placed on our website for your convenience. The application can be completed at your convenience but, You must come to our office to apply for a Building Permit.
Electrical, Mechanical or Plumbing permit application have also been placed on our website for your convenience. These applications can be completed at your convenience and you can either mail the application back to us with your payment or you may drop it off at our office in the Courthouse during normal business hours.
Our office hours are Monday through Friday, except Holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
