For many years now the assumption has been that the Eaton County Parks Department owned and operated the Fox Park Public Observatory, well that assumption has now become a reality.
Thanks to the vision and insight of the Eaton County Board of Commissioners, the Eaton County Parks Commission, and the Friends of Eaton County Parks, the Parks Department has taken ownership of the building and its contents.
The building and telescopes that are housed within the retractable roofed building were all bought and paid for by private donations and grants. Given the amount of community support that originally came together to create this unique opportunity we felt it important to continue offering this recreational activity for the citizens of Eaton County and the surrounding area. The Observatory is unique because there are very few opportunities like this in Michigan that provide the superior technology for observing the night sky and our galaxy.
