Gun Board

The regularly scheduled Eaton County Gun Board Meeting is the 2nd Wednesday of each month.

After being submitted at the Eaton County Clerk's Office, all applications (new and renewal) must be reviewed by the Gun Board. Once the background checks have come through, your CPL application will be reviewed at the next available meeting. Please allow up to 10 weeks for this whole process.

After the Board has reviewed your application and background check results, if your application is approved you will receive your license in the mail (please allow up to 1 ½ weeks after the Gun Board meeting date for mailing time.) If there are any issues with your application or criminal history you will receive notification in the mail, and you may be asked to appear at the next meeting. If your application is denied you will receive notice in the mail.

Please be aware your CPL is valid for no more than 5 years and no less than 4 years (based on application date and your date of birth.)

Updating Your Information
It is strongly recommend to ensure your information is updated and accurate so that in the event that you are stopped by law enforcement your driver’s license or State ID and CPL match.

Change of Address

If you have moved to an address within Eaton County you will first need to update your registered address with the Secretary of State on your driver’s license or State ID. You will need to then bring proof of the address change to the Clerk’s office.

If you have moved to an address outside of Eaton County the Clerk’s office can take the information for our records, but we will not be able to update the address associated with your CPL. This is because the CPL program does not allow a CPL to have an address outside the jurisdiction of the issuing county. You can only update your CPL to non-Eaton County address when you apply for renewal (up to 6 months in advance of expiration), but you would need to apply for renewal with the county of your current address.

Note: CPL holders must surrender their CPL card to the County Clerk that issued the CPL upon moving out of State.

Name Change

If you have married, divorced or otherwise legally changed your name you would need to bring proof of this to the Clerk’s office. (In the form of a marriage license, court order, or driver’s license or State ID)
The card reprint fee is $10

Replacement Cards

The card reprint fee is $10.
If you need a replacement card please come in person with photo ID to the Clerk's office we can print one for you, it should only take a few minutes.
If your card was stolen you may want to file a report of that with your local police or sheriff department.
