In August of 2022, The Eaton County Planning Commission initiated the process of updating the 2011 County Master Plan, which helps to guide future land use in the county. The Planning Commission, county staff and ROWE Professional Services Company, the contractor selected to assist the county with the project, have been working diligently on the update since then.
In October of 2022, the county and ROWE hosted several focus group meetings with local officials throughout the county. During the months of December and January of 2022 the county and ROWE hosted focus groups with stakeholders to gather their input on what priorities should be for the plan.
Community engagement/participation was sought during the spring of 2023 by way of two community surveys that were developed to gather public input for the plan. The surveys were available on our website and Facebook page. In addition, the surveys were emailed to stakeholders and townships. The surveys were also available via hardcopy in most county offices.
The Planning Commission worked on the review of each chapter of the Master Plan during the spring and summer of 2023. This included the review and update of each township’s future land use map. Meetings were held with each township individually to discuss potential changes within the local community.
Public open houses were held in November of 2023 to allow the public to review the plan. The open houses were held in the Eaton County Board of Commissioner’s Room at the Eaton County Complex, Chester Township Hall and Walton Township Hall.
The Planning Commission completed their final review of the Draft Eaton County Master Plan at their December 5, 2023 meeting.
The Eaton County Board of Commissioners will review the plan at their January 17, 2024 meeting.
