The week is designed to refresh, remind and educate everyone about the seasonal threats from severe weather and how to avoid them. It’s also a great time to make and practice your emergency plan!
The week is usually planned for March and includes a statewide tornado drill. Michigan’s 2023 Severe Weather Awareness Week will be from March 19-25, 2023 with the Statewide Tornado Drill taking place on Wednesday, March 22 at 1:00 pm.
Eaton County will be participating in the following ways:
- Encouraging county departments, schools, local agencies/organizations, businesses, families and individuals to discuss and practice their severe weather plan.
- Creating social media posts on a weekly basis leading up to Severe Weather Awareness promoting the drill and highlighting participation.
- Issuing press releases and conducting news interviews.
- Outdoor warning siren activation on Wednesday, March 22nd at 1:00 pm.
- Testing of the countywide alert system on Wednesday, March 22nd at 1:00 pm.
