Charges authorized for Charlotte death

Eaton County Prosecuting Attorney Douglas R. Lloyd announced this morning that charges have been authorized against Benjamin William Dunn, age 23, of Charlotte, for the August 8, 2020, death of Quentin Bartlett, also of Charlotte. The death occurred outside of CB’s Bar and Zoo located at 200 State Street in Charlotte and is being investigated by the Charlotte Police Department.

Dunn was formally charged on August 15, 2020, with Operating While Intoxicated Causing death and Reckless Driving Causing Death, each a felony punishable by a maximum of 15 years in prison.  He was arraigned by 56A District Court Magistrate Reid Felsing, and bond was set at $500,000 dollars, cash or surety. A probable cause conference was scheduled for August 31, 2020, at 9:30am.

As in all criminal cases, the charges are merely accusations, and Dunn is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Eaton County Prosecutor Douglas R. Lloyd said, “Quentin Bartlett’s death is tragic and was absolutely preventable. The choice to operate a vehicle after the use of drugs or alcohol puts the members of our community in unnecessary danger.  Our Community should not tolerate drunk and drugged driving, and those who choose to do so must be held accountable. My office is dedicated to working with our law enforcement partners to keep Eaton County a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.”
