[ARCHIVED] Weekly Update Article April 10, 2022

From April 3-10, 2022, Eaton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 706 calls for service/events. Our higher call volumes occurred in the following areas:  Traffic Stops-126, Suspicious Subject/Situation/Vehicle-48, Traffic Violations-41, Assist Citizen/Motorist Assists-33, Shoplifting Complaints-29, Alarms-24, Check Well-Beings-23, Car/Deer Accidents-19, Traffic Hazards-16, Domestic Disputes-16, Larcenies-15, Property Damage Crashes-15, Unwanted Subject-7, Personal Injury Crashes-7, Vacation Checks-7, and Breaking and Entering-5.

April 17-23 is National Volunteer Week.  What a wonderful opportunity to recognize volunteers everywhere who have dedicated themselves to serving whether it is in their church, community organizations, hospitals, local festivals, reading to children in their local library or school, etc.  Volunteers are essential in keeping many of the things we take for granted operating.

Volunteers at the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office play a vital role in providing service to many citizens.  Many of you may have seen our Mounted Division Unit at community events throughout the year.  The Unit was formed in 1974 and has been used in search and rescue efforts, presentation of the colors at public events, and at equine-related educational seminars and clinics.

The Victim Services Advocates are another unit of caring, compassionate volunteers dedicating themselves to helping people who have undergone a traumatic event, loss of a loved one, and assisting victims of a crime.  They report to scenes, homes, hospitals – wherever they are needed.  They are available 24/7 to fire and law enforcement agencies.

Last, but not least, is the Special Services Unit of the Volunteers in Police Service.  This Unit assists Sheriff’s Office Deputies during community events, some are on ATV’s and motorcycles, and there is a Chaplain’s Unit.  They volunteer throughout the year providing security at high school sporting events, car shows, the Fill-A-Cop Car and Shop With A Hero events through the holidays, patrol on Halloween, and local 5K races, just to name a few.

Volunteers play a vital role in countless activities throughout Eaton County.   Thank you all!

Yours in Public Safety,

Sheriff Tom Reich
